LinkedIn App for BlackBerry?

January 24th, 2008 Leave a comment Go to comments

It doesn't exist.... the title is nothing more than wishful thinking... but think about it... it makes perfect sense.

There's a Facebook for BlackBerry app... this is to get the "younger crowd" using the BlackBerry Pearl ( and potentially the curve) but the BlackBerry was initially designed with business in mind, so why does a LinkedIn app not yet exist for the BlackBerry?

Even if it gave access to nothing but your contact list... I think it would be seen by many as highly useful.

Thoughts?

    Why would we need this? I’m not nay-saying, I just don’t see how it is adding value to LinkedIn’s offering…

    good point. I have the same thought. Linkedin do need get more smart guys to help their technologies. These days they try switch their web pages. My personal feeling is the current one is much worse than the previous one. There are two things in front them, let facebook catch up with them in the professional networks, the other is to make change like: better easy usage UI, open API for the cellphone software vendors, update its search engine to catch up with facebook. This is a war, like the search engine vendors in year 2003, there is no 2nd place in this game, even it has, the second one will get nothing.

    @Jeff

    Regardless of how people see LinkedIn… it’s another social networking site, the only difference between it and Facebook/MySpace is that it’s focused on professionals. Look at the number of people who add the BlackBerry Facebook app.

    As for the value add… It’s similar to the LinkedIn toolbar in Outlook… It gives you access to your contacts… on-the-fly access to your network. I think it would increase the usage of LinkedIn. I know if people in my network ask questions, I’d be more inclined to answer it while traveling to and from work with nothing better to do, than I would when I’m sitting at home relaxing.

    I fully agree with the title and main post, I would love such an app, and since it already exists for facebook, why not for linkedin !!
    this really would be great

    Out of curiosity, what would you define as “access to your network?” Tyler mentioned LinkedIn Answers. What else would you want to do while you’re out in the world?

    @Jim:

    For me this would be
    “LinkedIn Answers” — A way to pass the time while in transit
    “LinkedIn Contacts” — I don’t have my LinkedIn contacts in my blackberry address book… and I’d love to compose an email or make a call to someone via LinkedIn Contacts…

    Also… when you’re at a conference, etc… The ability to exchange profiles/contacts via PIN or SMS, etc.. and add the person while you are there… It tends to slip off your radar once you leave, so the ability to do it on the spot would be great to assist in network building.
