About
Who am I?
HT is Tyler Reguly. I guess I'm your classic 26 year old geek, living in Toronto, Ontario. Along with my interest in computers and console video games, I have a love for music and swords. In the musical world there aren't many instruments that I don't play or haven't attempted to learn to play... even if it is only a few bars of the most basic songs... My primary musical interest is guitar but I did spend 8 years playing trumpet. When it comes to swords, I look forward to the day when I have a large display case in my home showcasing my collection (which is ever expanding.... the latest piece is an Excalibur replica). My fiance would also call me a "beer snob". While Canadian beer is much better than the "water" served in America, the major brands don't compare to many of the micro breweries, and even those don't compare with beer imported from Belgium and Germany and even England and New Zealand.
What's my IT background?
As far as my education goes I've got a three year diploma in Computer Systems Technology... My work experience is a little more varied. Like everyone in IT, at one time I tried my own company... we did computer sales and support... and during high school it kept me busy... I also had an 8 month period as a "babysitter" at a community access lab. Essentially I made sure the computers stayed running, monitored people on the computers and gave training in MS Office, Browsing the internet, using Hotmail, things like that.
My first "real" work experience came while I was in college... working in student support... This was one of the most varied jobs I had with exposure to everything... on-site support, in office support, phone support, email support but it also included web design and maintenance and even some python and VB Programming. I also worked with a FreeSCO firewall and did some Mac support. There were other tasks as well such as exploring NetReg deployment and administration (to varying degrees) of WebCT and Desire2Learn eLearning software.
After graduation I did a brief stint in telephone tech support for a large American ISP and then moved on to working for a marketing company. While I was there, I did system administration and maintenance for both PCs and Macs. I performed hardware upgrades to the two servers and maintained several customer websites using html, php and flash. I also wrote an internal image management library. Other tasks included security audits, deploying updates and even some work with Photoshop and InDesign. Another aspect of the job was working with a Toshiba e-Studio 3100C printer.... using the Fiery software.
Through all of this, I also did web design and web application development on the side for a few different customers, this is something I still carry on today as a side job. Feel free to contact me should you have an interest in having any web work done.
These days I'm working as part of a Vulnerability and Exposure Research Team... It's the coolest thing I've done to date and most likely the coolest team I'll ever work on. I get to be up to date and in the loop on all the latest and greatest in IT Security... On any given day I could use IDA Pro, write my own python code or spend time looking into how the latest IE vuln works or how certain software communicates on it's listening port.
